Western Lowland Gorilla

You wouldn't think so to look at them, but gorillas are friendly, almost 'shy' animals. They live in harem groups in which an adult male is the leader. An adult male gorilla is known as a 'silverback'.

A Diplomat who Resolves Quarrels

In a group everything revolves around the leader. He decides which route they all take through the forest. He also decides where the group stops to rest. But most importantly, the leader is a diplomat. He calms quarrels between the females and handles conflicts caused by the generation gap between his growing children. He is sometimes helped by his adult son.
